True / False / Not Given

10 short passages. Untimed. Answer one statement at a time — the answer and the reason appear instantly. Move between passages with Next, or the numbered tiles.

How this question type works
  • TRUE = the statement agrees with the passage.
  • FALSE = the passage says the opposite of the statement.
  • NOT GIVEN = the passage doesn't tell you either way — you cannot find it confirmed or denied.
  • The #1 trap: choosing FALSE when the answer is NOT GIVEN. FALSE needs the passage to actively contradict the statement. If the passage is simply silent, it's NOT GIVEN.
  • Statements come in the same order as the information in the passage.
  • Watch absolute words — all, always, only, never, the first — one of these can flip a TRUE into a FALSE.

Worked example — let's solve one together

Passage says: firms were asked to “cut working hours by roughly 20 per cent without cutting wages.”

Statement: The trial asked companies to reduce hours while keeping pay the same.

Answer: TRUE. Reduced hours + same pay = the statement agrees with the text. We found a line that directly confirms it — that is what TRUE requires.

The one habit to carry into the mock: before you ever pick FALSE, ask “does the passage actually say the opposite?” If you can't point to a contradicting line, it's NOT GIVEN.
