Summary Completion

10 passages. Below each passage is a short summary with gaps. Complete the summary using words from the passage — NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS per gap. The gaps read in order, so use the flow of the summary to predict each answer.

How this question type works
  • A summary paraphrases the passage, so the gap words come from the text but the sentences are reworded.
  • Use the grammar of the summary to predict each gap — singular or plural? noun or verb?
  • Read the whole summary first; the surrounding sentences hint at each missing word.
  • Keep to the word limit and copy spelling exactly from the passage.
  • If stuck on one gap, fill the easy ones first — context narrows the hard gaps.

Worked example — let's solve one together

Passage: “The Sun heats the oceans, turning water into vapour that rises and cools.”

Summary gap: Heat from the Sun turns ocean water into ______, which then rises.

Answer: vapour. The summary reworks the sentence, but the missing word is lifted straight from the passage.

Complete the summary — NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS

The numbered gaps form one connected summary. Type each answer and press Check or Enter.

Carry into the mock: let the grammar and flow of the summary predict each gap, then lift the exact word from the passage.
